Our Story

On January 17, 2019, our son Matthew Zonghetti, age 26, was taken suddenly and tragically by an extremely rare inbounds avalanche in Taos, New Mexico.  Matt was an expert skier and former ski racer who was passionate about the outdoors, education, sports, and building long-lasting relationships.

Matt excelled academically at both Mansfield High School in Massachusetts and Wake Forest University in North Carolina, and was a dependable teammate on both the football and lacrosse teams in high school and on the club lacrosse team in college. Teachers, coaches and teammates helped provide Matt with a solid work ethic and the will to persevere to attain one’s goals.

Matt was the best brother to his sister Kathryn. Matt met Kristen, the love of his life, at college. They built memories over six years together including adopting their dog, Bodie, and spending time with Kristen’s family. Memories were also shared with his loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and with Kathryn’s partner, Stuart and his children Jonathan and Jasmine.

Matt worked hard to create a fulfilling and rewarding life, which included building strong personal relationships. Matt had many close friends within the Mansfield community, and at Wake Forest University, Matt found an amazing group of “brothers” in the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.  Those friends and their families continue to be a huge part of our lives.

All of us know Matt’s thirst for life.  Matt’s close friend created the mantra “Live Like Z” and it truly represents how Matt lived.  Matt’s legacy would be for each of us to set goals, persevere to fulfill each goal, and live life to the fullest.

Let’s keep Matt’s memory alive and #LiveLikeZ
